For today's children comic-book charecters - Elmo, Barney, Caillou, and Thomas the tank engine - are living entities. Nikhil and Sidharth wake up to Caillou, the serial telecast around 7.30 am.
And they usually go to bed at night, listening to their mom reading out a book based on their current favourite among the cartoon figures My familiarity with Thomas the tank engine stems from nineteen-month old Nikhil.
Sidharth and brother have been waiting for a week now, for this weekend trip on the train pulled by Thomas. It was a four-hour drive - to and fro - from our place in San Ramom, for the 25-minute train ride on Thomas train in Santa Cruz.
Thomas pulls out of the main station.
Nikhil and Sidarth taking in the sights and sounds as Thomas puffs away into the wooded hills on the narrow gauge track.
A rail official on board - controller of narrow gauge - drops in for a chat; but Sidharth and Nikhil were not all that thrilled to meet him. For they had just been told that they couldn't meet Sir Topham Hatt (cartoon-character), as he had left for the day before we made it to the train.
The spot where Sir Topham received children, to pose for pictures and sign certificates for them was deserted. Every child that travelled the Thomos train is given a certificate of participation, signed by Sir Topham.
Passing by the yellow train, presumably, a friend of Thomas.
Another 'friend' of Thomas stops by, to pose for a picture with sidharth and mom.
Close to the railway station is this play area. Elsewhere, at the amusement park themed on Thomas and friends.
Things on this train table were orderly before the San Ramon brothers weighed in to mess them up.
